At the upcoming Rotary meeting on Monday, November 9, John Tien—Professor at Georgia Tech’s Sam Nunn School of International Affairs and former U.S. Deputy Secretary of Homeland Security—is poised to share critical insights on global security, national policy, and cybersecurity resilience. Drawing from his extensive 24-year military career and senior public leadership, his talk will highlight the vital role of public-private partnerships in protecting local economic infrastructure and navigating modern supply chain vulnerabilities. His presentation directly resonates with Rotarians through its focus on ethical civic leadership, emergency readiness, and a deep-rooted commitment to public service.

Service is our business, Fellowship is our fuel

Buckhead Rotary was busy last week!

Friday night we helped Chastain Park throw its first-ever Halloween party, and Glow Chastain did not disappoint. More than 20 Horizons Atlanta scholars came by our tent to collect a squishy, load up on candy and cast their ballots for favorite Rotarian costume. The winner, by a landslide: Miriam Falaki, who arrived as a crazy lady riding a peacock. Thank you to Miriam and the whole Horizons Atlanta committee for a night the kids will remember.

Our GRSP student Nesli Atici then proved that pumpkin carving crosses every border, producing a jack-o’-lantern that put the rest of ours, and her fellow GRSP scholars, to shame. And on Sunday a small army of Rotarians took over Mercedes-Benz Stadium to cheer on Atlanta United. Service is our business, but fellowship is our fuel, and the tank is full.

This Monday we turn to something that matters even more. We honor our Veterans, the members and guests who answered the call long before any of us pinned on a Rotary badge.  We will be collecting can food and dried goods for Thanksgiving baskets for our Horizons Scholars - so please don't show up empty handed.   Then we hear from John Tien, former Deputy Secretary of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, West Point graduate and combat veteran, who has sat in the room where the hardest calls get made. Bring a guest. Bring your questions.

See you Monday.
