Speaking of 75 Years of Buckhead Rotary history...

Happy post-Labor Day, Rotarians! Hope everyone survived three days of grilling, napping, and successfully avoiding all thoughts of work email.

This Monday, Sept. 14 is a big one. We're welcoming Sheffield Hale, President & CEO of the Atlanta History Center and the closest thing Buckhead has to a walking encyclopedia, fresh off our club's deposit of several artifacts there, including our original charter — now living somewhere nicer than a filing cabinet.

We will be giving a $40,000 check to Heather Friedman of LifeLine Animal Project, marking two years of partnership. That's not money falling from the sky — that's the Buckhead Rotary Foundation which is funded by every Rotarian who pays dues and sponsors the Annual Benefit, our only fundraiser, doing exactly what it's designed to do.

So make sure not to miss next meeting - and MAKE SURE TO REGISTER before you attend!  When you register for a meeting, it helps us to estimate the number of meals necessary - which speeds up service and saves the Club money.  And you may ask, "How does one register for a Buckhead Rotary lunch?"... well, here is a one minute video that explains how to register you and a guest:

Celebrating Literacy

Our 75th anniversary challenge coins have arrived, and every member receives two. Carry one as a reminder of the Four-Way Test. Put the other to work: hand it to a prospective member and they can redeem it for a free Monday lunch with us at Maggiano's. It's the easiest invitation you'll ever extend.

This past Monday we celebrated our club's long commitment to literacy in Georgia with the launch of the second of six anniversary videos chronicling 75 years of Buckhead Rotary's work in this community. We were also joined by Comer Yates of the Atlanta Speech School, a fellow Rotarian, who spoke about their work teaching teachers how to properly instruct children to read. Comer challenged all of us to understand what it really takes to turn a child into a reader.

We welcomed three outstanding new members this week: Armando Ruiz, John "Jay" Gibson, and Trent Collett. They are an interesting and eclectic bunch... each one is a great addition to the club.

Mark Meltzer introduced our new GRSP Student, Neslihan Atici from Turkey.  Nesli will be attending Oglethorpe University.  Reach out to Mark if you would like to invite her to share an experience in Atlanta.

There is no meeting this coming Monday — enjoy a relaxing Labor Day weekend.

Scroll through the rest of The Viewer and check out the Buckhead Rotary calendar. We have a lot going on this month, and plenty of ways to serve.
