🐾 We just set a record at the Healthy Pet event! 🐾
On October 17, Buckhead Rotary sponsored @lifelineanimal’s Healthy Pet event at Atlanta Technical College through our Pawsitivity Partnership. More than 1,700 pets were served, a new record for the event. 🐶🐱
Families got free vaccines, vouchers for spay and neuter surgery, and pet food. That makes a big difference for pets and the people who love them.
Thank you to the Rotarians who volunteered: Jonathan Blalock, Jeff Clark, Kathy Finn, Shelley and Joe Hammell, Kari Kirkley, Cort Neimark and Michael Stimpert. 💙
At Monday’s meeting, President Jeff Clark gave Kari Kirkley a “Thanks a Latte”...
Next Monday, November 2, we welcome David Cummings to the Rotary Club of Buckhead! 🚀
Few people have shaped Atlanta’s startup scene like David. He co-founded Pardot, the marketing software company later acquired by ExactTarget and now part of Salesforce. He went on to found Atlanta Tech Village, one of the largest tech hubs in the Southeast and home to hundreds of startups, and he invests in early-stage companies through Atlanta Ventures.
More recently, David has turned his attention to South Downtown. He and fellow entrepreneur Jon Birdsong have acquired dozens of historic buildings there to help bring one of Atlanta’s oldest neighborhoods...
Meet Matt Oja, one of our newest members! ☀️
Yesterday Matt gave his Sunshine Presentation and shared a moving story about his family’s roots in Estonia. His family fled as refugees during World War II and eventually built a new life here. It was a powerful reminder of the journeys behind so many of the people we sit beside each week.
Matt went on to a long career in utilities and telecommunications. He held executive roles at Silver Spring Networks and Itron helping utilities modernize their networks, and later ran his own consulting firm, Old Ivy Associates. We’re glad to have him in the Rotary Club of Buckhead!

Pink was the dress code at Rotary today! 🎀
Members of the Rotary Club of Buckhead showed up in pink to mark Breast Cancer Awareness Month. We also heard from our own Liz Loreti, CFRE (@lizzyh345), of Iris Breast Cancer Rehabilitation, about her work helping patients recover and regain strength after surgery and treatment.
Liz walked us through just how common breast cancer is. About 1 in 8 women in the U.S. will be diagnosed in her lifetime, which means nearly all of us know someone affected. She also made the case for why rehab and survivorship care matter long after treatment ends. Thank you, Liz, for educating us and for the work you do...
🎃✨ Glow Chastain is almost here! ✨🎃
The Rotary Club of Buckhead is partnering with Horizons Atlanta for this year’s Glow Chastain. Come find our table at Chastain Playground on Friday, October 30, from 5–7 PM.
It’s a free community event with glowing decor, candy and goodies, and fun for the whole family. Costumes encouraged, and all are welcome! 👻🦇
Horizons families, we can’t wait to celebrate with your scholars. Rotarians, bring your crew and register on the club site so we know you’re coming.
Special thanks to Georgia Power and Chastain Park Conservancy for making the night shine. 🧡

When the resources disappear, so does the aid. It’s that simple.
World Polio Day is this Saturday. Dr. Debra Houry, former Chief Medical Officer of the CDC, sat down with us to talk about what reduced USAID funding means for the global fight against polio.
We learned this gap won’t fill itself. Rotary has been at the heart of polio eradication for nearly 40 years, and as funding shrinks, people like us have to step up! 🌍💪
We’re closer than ever to a polio-free world. Let’s finish the job and End Polio Now!

Atlanta’s oldest public park has 70,000 residents, and they all have a story. 🌳
This Monday, we welcome Dr. Richard Harker, President & CEO of Historic Oakland Foundation. Richard joined the Foundation in 2017 as Director of Programming & Volunteers and has led it since 2022. Under his leadership, the Foundation opened Oakland’s new Visitor Center in April 2025.
Founded in 1850, Oakland Cemetery is the resting place of 26 mayors, five governors, Margaret Mitchell, Bobby Jones, Maynard Jackson, and Ivan Allen. Today it draws some 150,000 visitors a year for history, gardens, and community. Just in time for Halloween week, Richard will share...
Polio was once one of the most feared diseases in America. Summers meant closed pools, empty playgrounds, and parents holding their breath. 🦠
At Monday's Rotary meeting, Dr. Debra Houry, former Chief Medical Officer of the CDC, walked us through how the world fought back. Polio spread rapidly in the 1950's, and reached into nearly every corner of the world. Today, global polio cases are down more than 99.9%, thanks to the awareness, generosity, and service of those determined to keep it from coming back.
This World Polio Day, October 24, we’re remembering. Because the job isn’t finished yet. 💉🌍

Polio feels like history for most of us. For survivors, it isn’t. 🧡
What is post-polio syndrome? It's a condition that can appear decades after someone recovers from polio. It brings new muscle weakness, fatigue, and pain to people who thought polio was behind them. In the US, research is limited and few providers specialize in it, which leaves survivors in our own community without answers.
As World Polio Day approaches on October 24, we’re proud to stand with Rotary’s End Polio Now campaign. That means finishing the job of eradicating polio worldwide while also standing with the survivors still living with its effects here at home.

As Buckhead Rotary celebrates its 75th anniversary, we’re looking back at some of our most prized missions: The Georgia Rotary Student Program for incoming college students, as well as our Rotary Youth Exchange Program for high schoolers.
These programs are designed to strengthen the education and personal growth of students, preparing them to enter the world as confident, capable leaders. Through leadership training, mentorship, and cultural exchange, young people gain the experience they need to accomplish great things.
For 75 years and for years to come, Buckhead Rotary is proud to invest in our young leaders and community builders of to...
