Major Sean Minton, US Army Pubic Affairs Officer and Global Grant Scholar Alumnus
This week, join us at the Embassy Suites to hear from Major Sean Minton, a 2019-20 Rotary Global Grant Scholar who pursued a Master’s at King’s College London in International Peace and Security under the Rotary focus on Peace and Conflict Prevention/Resolution. His dissertation addressed how NATO, the institution, adapts as warfare and the environment change.
Sean is a U.S. Army Public Affairs officer who graduated first in his class of 56 Army Majors from the Command and General Staff Officer College campus at Fort Belvoir, Virginia just 10 days ago. He will next serve as a Public Affairs Officer in the Office of the Chief of Public Affairs (OCPA). OCPA advises the Secretary of the Army and Army Senior Leaders in strategic communications, and crafts and disseminates communication for Army policy.
Sean is originally from Florida and enjoys sunshine and close proximity to the ocean. In October 2018, Georgia Rotary District 6900 in the United States selected him to represent our district as a 2019-2020 Rotary Global Grant Scholar at King's College London in the United Kingdom. His course of study at King's was International Peace and Security MA in the renowned War Studies Department.
Major Minton completed a Master’s in Professional Studies in public Relations and Corporate Communication at Georgetown University in 2020. He graduat3d from the US Military Academy at West Point in May 2013. He lies in Alexandria , VA with his wife and two sons.
Congratulations Club of the Year!
We all know we have had a great year - having fun and making a difference in our community! So we are pleased to announce that we received recognition last weekend at the Jekyll Island District Conference - as Club of the Year in Category III (category based on our size). We also received awards for:
- Impactful Service - based on our work with Anchor Place respite care (respite care opportunities were also featured in a workshop available to all Georgia clubs, presenting the opportunity to do what we’re doing in other communities)
- Best Rotary Foundation Giving
- Best Per Capital Giving to the Georgia Rotary Student Program
Congratulations to President Louise, our officers and directors, and each and every member of the Rotary Club of Dunwoody!
Golf Tournament Update
Here’s Where We Stand … And Where We Need Help!
Our FORE the Memories tournament is fast approaching - with tee-off on Monday, May 19. Here’s where we need your help now:
- Putting Contest Sponsor: Signs need to be ordered by May 1 and we’re still hoping to find a sponsor at the $2,500 level. If we don’t, the club will be that sponsor.
- Golfer Names and Handicaps: If your sponsorship comes with golfer benefits, please send the names (and handicaps if you have them to Rick Woods sooner rather than later, so we can start building the gate list for St. Marlo. If you are a sponsor and NOT paying golf, pease try to fill your foursome as we want to have 90-100 golfers actually playing at the tournament!
- Auction: We have many items in the auction but are happy to have more - please contact Neil MacDonald.
- Weather: It never hurts to start praying for good weather on the 19th!
We should have a press release out to publications such as The Dunwoody Crier and the Dunwoody and Sandy Springs Reporter next week.

Getting to Know You
Meet Fred Bounds: A Pillar of Service and Community
This week, we shine a spotlight on Fred Bounds, a dedicated member of our club since Jul 13, 2001. Fred’s initial attraction to Rotary stemmed from its unique ability to facilitate meaningful contributions, both locally and internationally. He appreciated the many organized structures that allowed him to choose among different projects, a sentiment that resonated deeply as he hadn’t been actively involved in charitable giving before joining.
The fellowship within Rotary, characterized by positive and successful individuals, drew Fred in. Recruited by Sue Henderson, then a provost at Georgia Perimeter College, Fred’s professional life was deeply intertwined with education, having worked at GPC from 1989 until his retirement in 2017. His focus on business information systems and economics at GPC (which later became part of Georgia State University) reflect his commitment to education and community development.
Beyond the classroo, Fred’s passion for community shines through his dedicated work maintaining the traffic circle now affectionately known as Bounds Garden. This 0.005-acre park in Dunwoody is estimate to his commitment and care, showcasing a vibrant array of flowers like irises, daylilies, cone flowers and asters. Fred’s dedication to this space, supported by fellow club members and community contributions, highlights his hands-on approach to service. Frekd’s involvement extends to Anchor Place, where he volunteers on Monday’s, focusing on support for those affected by Alzheimer’s and dementia. His belief in literacy as a fundamental necessity underscores his commitment to broader community well-being.
Before his impactful tenure in education, Fred’s journey included serving in the Air Force after graduating from Florida State University. He spent time in Phoenix and then in Guam where he met his wife Mimi. His diverse background also includes an MBA from the University of South Florida and a stint as a Subway franchise owner.
Fred embodies the spirit of Rotarythrough his long-standing membership, his active involvement in community service projects, and his dedication to service above self. His contributions to our club and the wider community are invaluable, making him a true asset to the Rotary Club of Dunwoody.
Calling All Volunteers
Dunwoody Arts Festival - May 9-11
Dunwoody Village will soon be transformed into a thriving artist market. As a Dunwoody Rotarian - or a member of the Dunwoody family of Rotary - you have an opportunity to participate! Consider this your call to volunteer. The 15th annual Dunwoody Art Festival features artisans from across the country, a creative Kidz Zone, entertainment and tasty festival food. Mark your calendar now. Be part of the team that will make this 2025 signature event a “best-ever” success.
The Rotary Club of Dunwoody has been part of the Festival since its inaugural year in 2010. In exchange for the amazing volunteer support by Dunwoody Rotarians and Atlanta Rotaract, the Rotary Club of Dunwoody receives a complimentary ($2,000+ value), well-located exhibit space ($2,000+ Value) at the festival. We utilize this exhibit as the center for the Rotary Club’s community outreach - a place where we have recruited new members and enlisted potential Rotary Youth Exchange host families and outbound students.
There are two ways to help:
- Be a Festival volunteer: Welcome artists and help them set up on Friday (6-9 pm) and/or Saturday (6-9 am)
- Be a Rotary Club of Dunwoody ambassador: Help share our story with the community. We will staff the booth from 10 am - 4 pm on Saturday and Sunday; let us know when you might be able to help that happen.
