Message from the President: March 12, 2026

March has truly been a “Service Above Self” kind of month for our club, with Buckhead Rotarians who are volunteering across all three of our signature projects. From Dog for a Day to the Family Dinner at Shepherd, members have been stepping up to make a difference in our community. If you were unable to join one of these events, there’s still time to get involved. Sign up for the LifeLine Pet Food Delivery with Open Hand on March 21st or the Easter Egg Hunt with the Boyce Ansley School on March 27th, two great opportunities to serve and connect with your fellow Buckhead Rotarians.

Let’s keep the momentum going and make March the month Buckhead Rotarians step up, show up, and serve our community.

Two Ways to Volunteer and Help Pets and their People…

Pawsitivity Partnership with LifeLine and Open Hand on March 21st

If you’ve already volunteered with Open Hand to deliver pet food to LifeLine families in need, you know how meaningful and impactful this initiative is. If you haven’t yet had the chance to participate, please consider joining us on March 21st at 10 am for an inspiring two hours of service supporting members of our community experiencing pet poverty.

Bring a friend or family member or come on your own, everyone is welcome! When signing up, please indicate whether you’d prefer to serve as a driver or an assistant. If you’d like to ride along with someone else (assistant), we will be happy to match you with another Buckhead Rotarian so you can share in the experience.

Tail-Wag Check-In with LifeLine on April 4th

And coming up, we can make a big impact with pets and their owners at the April 4th Healthy pet event at the Fulton County Airport. It’s a rewarding, uplifting event where you will check in people and their fur-friends. Most of these people don’t have access to or can’t afford to provide the medical care needed for their animals. LifeLine fills this need and they need our help. They expect over 1,000 cats and dogs (happy and grumpy) accompanied by their people who will show up to receive everything from vaccines to chipping with multiple vets on site performing the procedures.

Buckhead Rotary is sponsoring this event, and we want as many members as possible to show up in force and volunteer. Most of us will help at check-in but there are other duties available if you are interested. Or just come and support us and see the impact being made in the community. Orientation is at 8:45 am with free bagels, donuts, coffee and a clipboard. Come out and enjoy the weather, get in a few belly rubs and cat purrs and help make a difference in the community. This will be a feline fine and dandy event.

No Meeting Monday! RSVP For Thirsty Thirdsday

Volunteer at the Easter Egg Hunt

Returning for the second year in a row is the widely popular Easter egg hunt on March 27 at Piedmont Park with the students from the Boyce Ansley School. Volunteers need to arrive at 10:30 am to hide eggs for the hunt. The first wave of students arrive at 11 am. There will be lawn games followed by lunch for students and volunteers. The second wave of students arrive at noon and will join us for lunch before starting the second Easter egg hunt. Sign up on the calendar. Please direct questions to Jimmy Paulk, James.Paulk@atlantasymphony.org or 917-213-8915.

Tell us what you think!

Member Experience Survey is Open

Buckhead Rotary leadership wants to hear from you. Tell us what you think about our meetings at Maggiano’s, the food and variety offered, and the speakers and programs you’ve enjoyed. Not a fan of Tilapia? Let us know! We also want to hear if you’re interested in future leadership opportunities such as serving on the board or even becoming president one day. The survey takes about five minutes, and your input is valuable to help shape the future of Buckhead Rotary.

Big shout out to all of our volunteers!

Thank you!

Paws in the Park

Our recent Dog for a Day outing brought together 28 volunteers, 22 Rotarians and guests plus 6 girls from Scouting America, and 7 shelter dogs (with 3 extra pups joining the fun) for a 2½-mile stroll through Chastain Park. It was truly a walk in the park, filled with fresh air, wagging tails, and lots of laughs. The dogs enjoyed a well-deserved break from the shelter and the chance to explore new sights and smells. It was a paw-some time for people and pups alike!

Thank you, Allie Geisler, for coordinating the logistics onsite at LifeLine, Kari Kirkley for the donuts, coffee and dog treats, Rosa McHugh for letting us set up shop at the Chastain Park Conservancy, Bill Gentner for tent set up and extraction and everyone else who participated for making this a pawsitively good time.

A Night of Service at Shepherd Center

Patients recovering from spinal cord and brain injuries at the Shepherd Center enjoyed a family-style dinner served by fifteen Buckhead Rotarians and their guests who turned out for an evening of volunteering serving a family-style dinner for the patients and their families before joining in on a spirited game of bingo. With Garth Peters calling out the numbers and Denise Starling acting as his Vanna White, a little friendly competition and plenty of joyful moments were had by all. It was a simple but meaningful night of service that left everyone smiling.

Thank you, Liz Martin, for making this an extra special night for the patients and their families going through this intense program to overcome their life-altering injuries.
